The 4 C’s
The 4 common factors known as the 4 C’s are as follows, Carat weight which refers to the weight of the diamond measured in Carats. The colour refers to how white the diamond is, the standard diamond ranges from white to yellow. The clarity refers to different natural inclusion which is present within the diamond. and Cut which refers to the shape of the diamond. Below is further information on these.
Carat Weight
Carat is the unit of measurement of a diamond’s weight. Although it is the weight of the diamond generally the higher the carat the larger the diamond will appear, although all diamonds will measure differently and will vary in cut.
Colour
A diamond is graded from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow or brown tint). Colour is a noticeable element when viewing a diamond. Between D - G the diamond will appear colourless, below this the diamond will appear warmer in colour with light yellow hues.
Clarity
Clarity is determined by the size, placement and number of inclusions within the diamond. A diamond is graded from Flawless to I3 (heavily included). Often diamonds graded between flawless and Si2 won’t have obvious inclusions.
Cut
A diamond cut is graded from excellent to poor. The cut of a diamond will affect the overall appearance and sparkle. Generally the better the cut the better the diamond will look and sparkle.
